Tragic News on UPS Crash: Fatalities Climbs to 13

The total count of lives lost resulting from the freight aircraft that burst into flames and crashed has climbed to 13, as confirmed by recent reports.

City Leader's Remarks

“On my way to the Teamsters’ vigil, I received word of a thirteenth victim that passed away as a consequence of the aircraft crash,” stated the local official in a social media post. “My thoughts is with the loved ones, companions and peers of all who were taken in this recent calamity. We will get through this together.”

Casualties Named

A statement from UPS listed the officers on board the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts are extended to every employee who has been affected and everyone in our community region – supporting you and ensuring you get the attention and aid you need is our main concern,” the company’s message stated.

Inquiry Details

Federal authorities disclosed that the freight aircraft’s left wing ignited and an motor separated soon after takeoff from the aviation hub, leading to the aircraft to crash and erupt into a fireball.

The NTSB stated it is investigating the jet’s upkeep logs, which was in the state for maintenance weeks ahead of the crash.

Aviation information showed the plane was on the ground in San Antonio, Texas from 3 September to mid-October.

“We are knowledgeable that this plane was there in that city,” remarked an investigator on Thursday, without a precise time frame. “We will review each aspect of repairs that was completed, even the repair period, all the way to the date of the journey.”

Recovery of Key Components

The cockpit voice recorder and information unit were recovered, and the motor was found on the runway.

The units – called data containers – were built to survive accident forces and intense fire from fires, and they seemed to be undamaged when located amid the crash debris. Authorities plan on examining information from the recorders.

The plane’s last data recordings indicated an altitude of 475 feet and a speed of 210 mph ahead of the accident.

Repair Record

Per aviation authority records dated last month, a fissure on a structural piece in the tank area demanded repairs.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which indicated it offers structural repairs for UPS’s MD-11 and runs a repair facility in that city, refused to comment, but expressed it would cooperate fully when officials contacted it.

Activities Restart

Meanwhile, the hub services restarted that evening with its overnight or evening procedure, representative Jim Mayer said. The three landing strips at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were also reopened.

The UPS package handling facility in the city is the company’s largest. The center engages in excess of twenty thousand workers in the locality, handles numerous trips daily and organizes more than four hundred thousand items per hour.

Local Response

A gathering was organized on the late afternoon of 6 November by the regional labor union, which acts for workers at the Louisville airport, the company’s biggest freight center.

The union chapter, which stands for employees, started the memorial with a moment of silence at that time, the estimated moment of the crash before.

“This tragedy was so abrupt, so surprising,” the mayor addressed the assembly of 200. “No one had a chance to bid farewell to any one of those who we have lost.”
